Jarra Abba Gadaa, also known by his birth name Abdulkarim Ibrahim Hamid, is an Oromo rights activist and human rights activist. Jarrah spent his entire life fighting for the Oromo people.

 BACKGROUND

Jarra Abba Gadaa was born in 1936 in Mudir Gooroo village, Gaara Mul’ata district, Eastern Oromia, to Ibrahim Hamid and Momina Ebo. When he was old enough to go to school, he went to school.

 ARMED STRUGGLE

In 1966, he took 12 soldiers to join the Bale fighters who were fighting hard slavery. In Bale, he joined the uprising led by General Waqo Guutu. He also took part in several major battles during the Bale uprising.

As soon as the government took control of the Bale Uprising, Jarra realized that it was crucial to have adequate training and weapons and immediately went to Somalia. The Somali government was helping the Bale struggle, and they welcomed Jarrah accordingly. Later, however, in 1969, the Somali government of Ziad Barre refused to allow struggle in the name of Oromo. Ziad Barre said the Oromo will not get help unless they fight in the name of Somalia. According to Ziad Barre, Hararghe, Arsi, Bale and Sidamo are Somalis, not Oromo. So they don't do any help to any other struggle except in the name of Somalia.

Jarrah went to Arab, Yemen in search of help. In 1970 he entered Eden, South Yemen. In Yemen, he met with other Oromo such as Elemo Qilxuu, Hussein Sura and others; they also decided to form a party that would fight for Oromo. He held talks with the Yemeni government and the Yemeni government promised to help him. That same year, he went to Iraq and held talks with government officials.

Hussein Sura, Jarrah Abbas, Elemo Qilxuu and other leaders went to Cairo, Baghdad and Damascus for talks. The Iraqi and Syrian governments have pledged to provide weapons and the Palestinians in Syria agreed to give them military. After the necessary preparations were completed, 36 soldiers returned home and received a year of training. The soldiers were named the Morning Youth /Qeerroo Ganamaa/.

That same year, Jarrah led the Morning Youth and took up arms and headed home. When Jarra, led 36 Morning Youths and boarded a boat and landed in Somalia, the Somali army surrounded them and captured them. In 1970, he spent five years in Mandera prison in Somalia. He spent five years in prison and was released and taken to Mogadishu. In Mogadishu, Ziyad Barre himself asked Jarra to join the Western Somale Liberation Front (known as the Western Somale Liberation Front - WSLF). Jarra, however, refused to accept this. When he was released from prison in 1975, he believed that the struggle should enter the country.

The Oromo nationalists in Finfinnee invited him to come to Finfinnee to complete the declaration of the establishment of a new Oromo party, which Elemoo Qilxuu had started in Finfinnee in 1973. He went to Finfinnee. However, the Oromo nationalists were busy with the Derg patriots of the party Marxist-Leninists, he could not focus on this establishment and returned home. He took a few guns and bullets buried by Elemo and others and formed the Freedom Army and continued the struggle.

Shortly thereafter, an unexplained clash broke out between the army of Jarraa Abbaa Gadaa and the fighters from Finfinnee. Although the two armies split, both are referred to as the "Oromo Liberation Front. In 1985, Jarrah and his allies named their army the Islamic Liberation Front of Oromo, Adda Islaamummaa Bilisummaa Oromoo (AIBO).

The AIBO was involved in the 1991 Ethiopian transitional government. In 1992, he left the transitional government and returned to the mountains of Hararge to continue his struggle. In 2005, they changed the name of AIBO to the Democratic Liberation Front of Oromia.
